Trying something new and something borrowed here for Music Monday. With several artists to cover, I thought the snippet idea could work. Let’s give it a try, shall we?

Weezer Covers The Cars
I love The Cars. I love Weezer. This is like two great bands coming together to recreate a 80’s classic song. Watch and listen and enjoy, like I have many, many times. If you want the song, you can get it via iTunes or Amazon.
Stereogum Top 2011 Albums
I read Stereogum on occasion, but found this link to their top 20 albums of 2011 so far intriguing.
I’ve only got 2 of them [Adele and Fleet Foxes]. That’s a scant 10% of this list. Guess I should go check out some of the other albums. I know Bon Iver is one I’ve heard of, but haven’t heard yet. Anyone recommend any of the other bands and can vouch for their listening quality?

Wow, what with Kapgar making me realize earlier today that I didn’t have any Primus and now you mentioning Björk, my list of music must tries gets bigger by the hour 😉
If you are starting with Björk, “Vespertine” is a great album for your first.
Bjork is freaking awesome and one of my all time faves.
But all that Stereogum link taught me was, 1) I hate people who think they know all the “good” indie bands, and 2) I have no idea who James Blake is – I have a feeling I don’t care, either. 🙂
I have no idea who James Blake is either. I barely got schooled in bands like The National just a few months ago. Björk is awesome.
Love Weezer and their cover of The Cars. It may be the best thing about “Cars 2,” from the reviews I’ve heard of the movie. And I only have 1 album on that list. I’m so out of touch with new music.
I still need to see the first Cars movie. So anything Cars 2 beyond the Weezer song may be months away.

As for Stereogum’s list, I’m getting Bon Iver’s new one shortly. Got the first and love it. I also have Smith Westerns, Toro y Moi, Adele, Yuck, and the Fleet Foxes and love them all. I’ve eard single tracks by Destroyer, Fucked Up, and Unknown Mortal Orchestra and liked them as well. Of course I have old PJ Harvey stuff but not the new album.
I’ve since heard music from Fucked Up, who actually sound really good. And yes, I’ve heard of PJ Harvey before… older music from the 90’s.
