The 6th studio album released on February 24, 1975

Led Zeppelin only had 9 studio albums – 8 while John Bonham was still alive – and they released their first 4 in 2 years. But they gained quite a popular following leading up to this 6th album and radio play helped a lot. This double album has stood the test of time and is still very much relevant today.

Songs Do Not Remain The Same

Double albums were common in the 1970’s and Led Zeppelin jumped on the band wagon with 15 songs that further cemented their career as one of the biggest rock bands that took over the world.

My favorite song is “The Wanton Song” with it’s grooves, riffs and pounding beats. It was never issued as a single, and hardly played live during the 1975 tour, but has gained quite a following with fans over the years. “Trampled Under Foot” (with the chorus “Talkin’ Bout Love”) and “Kashmir” (from the movie “Fast Times at Ridgemont High”) however, did became radio and live staples. Such great songs that sound pretty much nothing like early Zeppelin songs. One song that is on this album is “Houses Of The Holy” which was the title of their 5th album. It was left off intentionally as the band didn’t feel it fit with the other songs.

Speaking of songs not feeling like they fit, “Boogie With Stu” and “Black Country Woman” don’t fit at all on this album. They are quite different in construction and they are my least favorites of any Zeppelin songs. Overall, I like this album and most of the songs I enjoy listening to often.
