Music Monday: Stone Temple Pilots “Purple” Turns 30
|
the second album by Stone Temple Pilots released on June 7, 1994
When Stone Temple Pilots hit the scene with their first album “Core” they made a big impact. Part rock, part alternative, their sound was immediately recognizable and strong.
But for many bands, the true test is with the second album. And “Purple” really cemented their place as a legitimate band with an incredible sound.

Strong Second
For this long time STP fan, there isn’t a bad song on this album. Even the album ending song with the lounge sounding hidden track “The Second Album” has its place on this album as listenable. My favorite song off this album is “Still Remains” with the equally favorite lyric “If you should die before me ask if you can bring a friend”
I listen to this all the time. It’s on my iPod I keep in my car. I regularly listen to the album from start to finish. I love the songs played live and have heard them many times. “Vasoline” “Interstate Love Song” and “Big Empty”. If it’s been a while since you have heard this album, go listen to it on your favorite streaming service. Or if you are old school like me, find the CD and press play.
This is a damn fine album.
Yes it is.
Now this is a bloody great album. I must admit I kind of forgot about STP. But I listened to this and Core TO DEATH when they first came out. Guess I know what’s gonna be in my headphones here this evening.
Awesome. Yeah STP first two albums were so good.
