Music Monday: Van Halen at Cafe Wha?

When we last left you here on Music Monday, we talked about the teaser video that Van Halen tossed out about a new tour and a new album. Well, to announce the dates and give fans proof they are really doing something, they jammed to an invite-only event on Jan 5th at Cafe Wha? in New York. After reading the reviews, seeing some photos and watching the plethora of YouTube footage captured from that night, I can honestly say that they are back [well, not completely since Michael Anthony is not part of this] and look and sound like they are ready to take on 2012 in a big way.
David Lee Roth, Eddie Van Halen, Alex Van Halen and Wolfgang Van Halen are look like they are fit, cleaned up, the same and well trained as a band. The new album titled “A Different Kind Of Truth” drops Feb 7th.

Long Video
And one last video that melds a few songs together
Audio is so-so, but video is nice and up close
I watched some of that footage last night, and couldn’t hear David Lee Roth singing at all – bad footage, plus, the crowd was louder than him. Either way – I will attend one of these concerts.
Yeah, being in that little club, I think the audio for Dave’s voice wasn’t directed very well… or not picked up very well by the cameras there.
I don’t think I’m going. While I’ve never seen VH with DLR, I’d rather remember seeing them with Michael.
The remembering MA performance is a good reason to skip.
Cool. But a shame you couldn’t hear DLR’s vocals at all – was curious to see how his voice has held up over the years.
Yeah, I think it was the cameras there and the acoustics of the little club that didn’t pick up his voice well.
It’s odd, but I have no interest in seeing this tour. For me, the David Lee Roth era has long passed and I have no interest in revisiting it. If they were touring with Sammy, it might be different, but I’ll leave my interaction with Roth/Van Halen to my iPod. 🙁
I’ve never seen VH with Sammy, so would have loved to see that line up. I’ve seen them once with DLR in 1982 and it was pretty awesome.
I ordered my tickets to the Chicago show on Tuesday, and booked my hotel room today.
Jealous that you have tix to the Chicago show.
