Wild Nothing “Nocturne”
The end of 2012 has arrived.
I posted my Top Albums list of 2012 a few weeks ago [got an earlier than usual start to the deluge of the end of the year lists] and while there haven’t been that many other new releases since then, there was one album that came out in August that I barely heard a week ago.
Wild Nothing, which essentially a one-man operation consisting of Jack Tatum, was created in 2009. They have had two full albums, including their debut “Gemini” back in 2010. When the band tours, there are more musicians, but for the most part, this is Jack’s project. And unlike the ultra popular and overrated Owl City, this one man band is much more listenable. Their hit single “Paradise” is getting all sort of airplay on SirusXMU and I can see why. Catchy, mellow and creative all rolled up into just over 5 minutes of aural pleasure. The start of the song has an 80’s new wave feel to it, with bits of New Order, Human League and a twinge of that Nile Rodgers guitar riff.
2012 took several of my favorite bands on the road, most of them to Utah (shocking) but one I traveled to see live.
- First time seeing Iron Maiden live
- Traveling to Portland to see Bob Mould perform Sugar’s “Copper Blue”
- Seeing Foster The People again
- Finally seeing The Shins in concert
- And seeing Grouplove live twice in one year.
One of the first releases for February 2013 is “Amok”, the debut album by Atoms For Peace, a project headed up by Thom Yorke of Radiohead, and including Flea from Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Also Buckcherry has a new album “Confessions” coming out on February 19th. Their new song “Gluttony” is pretty strong and growing on me with each listen.
And of course a brand new album by my favorite band Depeche Mode, dropping sometime in March. No concrete date or any track listings have leaked, but I’m sure it will be official enough here soon.
And Music Monday will bring all of that to you just about every Monday [I strive for a post every Monday, but might miss a few over the course of the 52 weeks, as I did in 2012]
Any music you are looking forward to in 2013?
