Religious Propaganda – Made Up
I saw the above image on my Facebook page that was posted in the Atheist Nexus group, which points out ridiculous religious news stories. Doing a bit of research, it turns out the above image and propaganda phrase started propagating the social media landscape around November 2012.
Snopes.com says it’s false. I knew it was false even before looking it up. Of course, LOL is the acronym for “Laughing Out Loud” but that didn’t stop some religious fear-mongering nut from hijacking it to mean something evil.
As part of this research, doing a Google search for “Lucifer Our Lord” showed other acronyms that were hijacked in the name of religious fear:
- YOLO – Youth Obeying Lucifer’s Orders
- SWAG – Satan’s Wishes Are Granted
- ROFL – Rise, Our Father Lucifer
- BRB – Beelzebub Rules Below
- WTF – Worship The Fallen
Who the hell believes this made up shit? Certainly not teens or rational adults. Perhaps people that are so bent on controlling others with fear. People like my mom, who fell for such made up beliefs.
Music and Satan
As a teen growing up in the mid-1970’s, there was a large amount of those who jumped onto the “Rock n Roll is evil” bandwagon and looked for anything that was any type of example to “take down the evil music that was leading our children down the road to hell.” Sure, some were easy targets such as AC/DC’s “Highway To Hell” album in 1979 or Black Sabbath’s compilation album “We Sold Our Souls for Rock n Roll” in 1975.
But in general, they were all invented lies, like deeming the band KISS’s name to mean “Knight’s In Satan’s Service” or the Canadian band Rush to have their name mean “Rulers Under Satan’s Hand” [what’s with the excessive use of apostrophes?], all in the efforts to place some type of evil purpose on a band.
Referencing my mom above, she was one that used to trump up these labels on bands. She hated my music when I was a teen. I never once believed any of these bands were Satan worshipers, but I was almost ready to praise the devil just to make fun of her and give her more fodder for fear. But alas, I didn’t. I only argued with her that none of it was true.
Hail Satan
I know the Bible talks about using different fabrics, but I think satin is acceptable
I am of the belief that there is no such person as Satan or Lucifer. Just a story made up to cause fear in people’s lives. However, if you are of the religious mindset and believe there is such a personage, I’m sure if you are rational, you don’t feel that internet lingo or rock musicians are in bed with the devil for the purpose of leading their souls down to the deepest depths of Hell.
So each time I see a mention of LOL, I will have to laugh out loud of it’s true meaning.
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
Love your Satin comment.
Thanks. I thought that was a rather inventive misspell that proved the point.
