Music Monday: Stone Temple Pilots Reboot

Back in late February, Stone Temple Pilots formally fired Scott Weiland as their lead singer. While Scott has had his issues over the years, this still came as a complete shock to this long time fan of the band. What would they do now? Reform Army Of Anyone or Talk Show?
Nope. STP lives on.
Fast forward to this past weekend when Chester Bennington of Linkin Park, appears in a 40 minute live set at the annual KROQ Weenie Roast. Check out the YouTube clip below for a 10 min portion of the live set.

New Song “Out Of Time”
Not only was there a live show with Chester, they also found the time to record a new song in the studio. Take a listen below.

I like this song. But I have to admit being a long time fan of Scott’s vocals and not really much of a Linkin Park fan [except for their debut and most recent albums], it needs to grow on me. But I admit that Chester has some vocal talent to bring to the STP table.
The Future Of STP
As Chester has confirmed, he is in this for the long/short haul. I guess we’ll see what future studio sessions and live events bring to this mash-up.
Sounds awesome. The only thing that concerns me is that if Chester likes this a little too much and his Linkin Park work begins to slide. Hopefully that won’t happen. (crosses fingers)
I would hope that Chester will remain a perm part of Linkin Park. STP is a bit too volatile for him (or any Scott Weiland replacement)
I’m with KSpencer. He and I are both Linkin Park fans and I’d hate to see LP suffer due to Chester spending more time with STP.
I think LP is safe with Chester being their main front man for the long haul.
Yeah… A lot of music that isn’t really stone temple pilots and is instead really a supergroup. I’m sorry I agree with vocalist replacements, but when Brian Johnson did it for AC/DC it worked because he kinda sounded like Bon and he was a fresh face. He didn’t have some other band that was huge (like Chester with LP).. Same goes with William Duvall for AIC… he was fresh and it worked when he replace Layne. Chester happens to be in a band everyone knows about and on the contrary doesn’t sound like Scott at all.. (he does attempt his style though.) That’s when you should change the band name.. Talk Shows album is more of a STP album then this new song.
Great reply with lots of detail on STP and other bands that survived with a new lead singer. William DuVall does add new life to AIC, that’s for sure.
