Liquid Zero Consumption

Bottled Up Zeros
In part of my working out and changing my diet to eat healthier, I still like to stay hydrated. And while I’ve been mostly drinking coffee, water and Monster energy drinks, I wanted to see what this whole zero soda craze was all about. I know Ren has talked about Coke Zero on twitter and if he likes it, it can’t be all that bad.
Coke Cherry Zero
I decided to go with a flavored version of the Coke Zero brand. I’ve enjoyed the regular Cherry Coke since it came out in the mid-1980’s. I’ve tried the diet Cherry Coke and hated it. Just a horrible aftertaste.
As for this Coke Cherry Zero? I actually like it. It’s not bad. It’s not as sweet as what I was expecting. And there wasn’t the weird after taste that most diet drinks have. And with it being zero calories, I felt like it was a good choice over a regular soda that I prefer.
Of course, this doesn’t mean that I will start guzzling sodas like I did over six years ago. But if I want one in the future, I will have to find a Coke Cherry Zero. Or maybe venture out and try the Coke Vanilla Zero. It’s an alternative that I can enjoy.
Dasani
I rarely drink bottled waters, due to the fact that I’m always always near a water fountain that I can refill my aluminum water bottle at work or drink from the faucet at home. But today, I decided I needed a water with me. The Coke products sold at the store checkout counters had Dasani waters for $1.49 each.
Opening the bottle, it emitted a “Pffft” sound, like it had a bit of carbonation in it. It says it’s non-carbonated on the label, so it might have been some pressure from being stored and bottled. Regardless, it was refreshing and I enjoyed the water. To me, it was no different than any other generic brand of bottled water. And it’s zero calories (Duh!) so it was good to have something non-sweetening and non-filling. For the price, I can get a much cheaper option next time, but for today, Dasani was a good choice.
Any fans of the Coke Zero brand?
Man, I was right there with you until the Dasani water. I HATE Dasani water. It’s gross.
I won’t drink Evian water, either. It’s naive backwards, and that just ain’t right.
I rarely drink Dasani, so I can’t tell if it’s bad or not, but I don’t drink Evian at all. The backwards spelling is pretty accurate. 🙂
I’ve never had any coke zero products. I actually don’t drink soda anymore…expect for a root beer every blue moon. I mainly just drink water with either emergen-c (I am bad about actually getting vitamin C and this is a good way to do that and flavor the water) or alone, or tea. Right now I am really into yerba matte (I have no clue if that’s how it’s spelled). It gives a good caffeine boost (I’ve never been a coffee drinker…which makes me a Portland outcast) but it’s not boring black tea.
I drink mostly iced tea instead of soda. But unless I am at home or leave the office to go get tea, it’s either water or whatever I have at my desk or my little fridge I have in the office.
I will have to check out this yerba matte. I drink coffee, but usually no more than 2 cups a day.
I don’t mind Coke Zero, but my drink of choice is Diet Coke. I’m TRYING to drink more water – but mostly I just don’t drink enough liquid at all.
The few times I’ve tried Diet Coke, I’ve not enjoyed it. I have had Diet Coke with Lime and it’s not bad. Water is always a better choice, IMO.
Coke Zero!
I find the Cherry to be acceptable, but I really prefer the regular. At a Freestyle machine, I sometimes mix 1 part Raspberry Coke Zero with 2 parts regular Coke Zero. Except that I almost always get Vanilla Diet Barq’s, which is by far my favorite diet soda. Very reminiscent of a root beer float to me.
The Raspberry Coke from the Freestyle machine is very good (the regular version). I didn’t realize that had a Zero version of the Raspberry. Now I really want to try this Diet Vanilla Barq’s to see if I get the same root beer float taste experience.
Oh, I forgot to mention that I also detest Dasani. I mean, I’ll drink it if I’m thirsty and it’s what’s available, but under protest. I’m far from a water connoisseur, but I very much prefer Ozarka Spring Water (as opposed to their “Drinking Water”). Aquafina is acceptable.
Both you and Sybil are Dasani detesters. And I’ve heard others here locally complain about Dasani. I’ve had Aquafina before and it’s good. I might have to buy a bottle of both and taste test to see if I can tell a difference. I might find a different opinion.
Boo on diet drinks. They’re all bad, even the no-calorie ones. I have never been able to drink any kind of diet soda – I cannot stand the taste. It’s the real stuff or nothing (more nothing lately).
I don’t generally do bottled water (environmental stuff, dontcha know), but when I do, I look for Fiji. It’s got this velvety mouth feel that is wonderful. Beyond that, all that stuff tastes the same to me. I like my tap water, filtered (twice). 🙂
Yes… diet drinks are pretty bad. But for some reason, the taste of the Zero branded drinks are not that bad. I’ve tried Fiji water before and it’s good. I normally do tap water as well.
Coke Zero is my cola of choice these days. Was a big Diet Coke fan but I actually prefer the taste of Coke Zero. You know, I don’t think I’ve had a cherry one in ages.
Ahh. another Coke Zero fan. I had one of the plane yesterday and my daughter had a regular Coke and we did a taste test and while there was a difference, it wasn’t as big as drinking say a Diet Coke.
