An Open Letter To Chaz Bono

Chaz Bono
Dear Chaz,
Your recent addition to the lastest season of “Dancing With The Stars” has caused quite the controversy. As you know, there are a majority of people in America who have issues with people that aren’t just like them and they make all sorts of vocal efforts to make themselves stand out in order to get their names in the press and profess it’s all about “protecting the children” which also pushes their cause into the mainstream media.
Never mind the fact that the previous 12 seasons of this reality TV show had many of the fit and trim females cavorting around in very little clothing and the males would often wear tight pants and remove their shirts to expose their tanned and ribbed chests, which apparently is ok with those who oppose “your kind” being on prime time television, since there hasn’t been the outpouring of disgust like the one surrounding your casting.
In fact, if these people raising the red flag would have kept quiet, those children they are working to protect wouldn’t have known any different who they were watching on this dancing show. They would simply have seen a male dancing and working hard to make the best of being on a highly rated show.
I applaud your mother for her vocal statements of support. And if your father were still with us, I’m sure he would be just as vocal in his support for you. You’ve had a long road in life in becoming who you are and the struggles, trials and changes you’ve experienced take courage and challenge, which should be applauded, not condemned.
I don’t normally watch “Dancing With The Stars” or most reality TV, for that matter. But given your addition to the cast, I will be voting and rooting for you as I am not a judge of person. Only a fellow human being that wishes you the best in all of your endeavors in life.
Sincerely,
Marty Mankins

Uptight moms with children who live in a bubble. Ridiculous. Go, Chaz!
Get out of the bubble and live life is what I would say to these uptight freaks.
I wrote the same thing on fb yesterday. I even went so far as to show my (nearly) three year old granddaughter a pic of Chaz and said…”Honey, look at this pretty girl!” She said, “Atsa boy, Gamma!” then rolled her eyes at me for not knowing the difference between a boy and a girl and walked off. LOL The only people who are making an issue out of this are the narrow minded fools who fear what they don’t understand. These are the SAME morons who also said they would protest the show if Lance Bass came on the show. You know, with him being *whispers* gay and all. *shifty eyes*
I wish people would just learn to live and let live. These crazy bitches are acting like if their children stare into the eyes of the Chaz monster then they too shall suddenly change genders! Ooooh…scary.
Either that, or they realize that Chaz is more of a man than most of their husbands are. Better still, he’s a man…with the savvy mind of a woman. He’s the ULTRA man!!! LOL
Go Chaz, indeed. And kudos to Cher for being such an amazing, supportive mom.
Well spoken, CP. Love that you showed the pic to your child. Live and let live. Wishing that for all, but I’m telling you, some don’t see it that way.
Ever notice that people who have the courage to live their lives the way they see fit – however radically different that “life” is from everyone else – always get shit for it? I admire Chaz for living his life the way he sees fit.
Fuck all of the haters. 🙂
Fuck the haters. Love to those who accept and love all.
Bravo for this post, Marty – I’ll watch it too, for the first time ever, just to cheer Chaz. It’s not surprising, the uproar, but it’s discouraging. After all, Bristol Palin, whose moral fabric isn’t exactly that of the right-wing extremists opposing Chaz Bono, was upheld as a pride and joy of America. Give me a break. Double standards run rampant.
I’ve followed Chaz on every TV interview he’s given, and am constantly filled with admiration for him. He’s braved the tough interviewers with style and confidence, something so many people without gender issues cannot do.
Here’s hoping Chaz is last man standing on this show – I’ll applaud his win!
Thanks, Lissa. I applaud Chaz’s ability to go forward and make this life his.
I will be rooting for Chaz from across the pond! I still can’t believe that in this day and age people can be so small minded and naive about how black and white the world isn’t. I applaud him for his courage and determination.
His participation on DWTS will be a huge step for gender identification issues finally getting the mainstream attention required to make people more understanding and tolerant.
Hard to believe people dig themselves into the lives of those they don’t agree with. And I agree. This will be a positive direction for those struggling with gender identification.
I just don’t get it…why do people think that they get to vote on other peoples’ lives?
Thanks, Marty for your blog…Thanks, Chaz, for pushing the envelope…
I don’t get it either. Accept all for who they are in this world.
Here’s my thought, What do Chaz Bono, Boy George, Alexi Arquette, and I have in common? We are all human, who deserve respect. Period.
You do make a good point though. There are parents out there who will boycott Chaz Bono but don’t bat an eye at mostly naked woman dancing on television? They show a hella lot more than Chaz will I promise.
I wrote on my blog “What may or may not be between Chaz Bono’s legs really shouldn’t be up for discussion because frankly it’s nobody’s business but his.
All human… exactly right. Loved your blog post on this same subject.
I’m looking forward to what Chaz does and wish him luck.
Should be a good run for him.
While Dancing With The Stars won’t ever really be my cup of tea, I do wholeheartedly support Chaz and wish him the best.
As I mentioned above, I don’t watch it much.. just snippets here and there. But I’m rooting for Chaz this season.
I completely agree. DWTS isn’t my cup of tea, but I definitely support Chaz. I wish more people could be as true to themselves as he is.
More support for Chaz.
Marty, you’re a rock star. Good luck, Chaz. We’re all rooting for you!
Thanks, Meagan. And go Chaz!
