Reserved – Nissan LEAF One Year Later
|
I may have to wait even longer to sit in my own driver’s seat
That was me in October of 2010, test driving the Nissan LEAF, more than 6 months after I put my name and $99 to be one of the first 20,000 on the reserved list.
Today is one year since I’ve reserved my LEAF and nothing in the way of updates of when I can expect to get one. While I understand the priority given to the launch markets combined with the incredible task of rolling out a consumer vehicle that doesn’t run on gasoline, it’s still a bit frustrating to still be waiting.
Then I read today’s news release, which got me more frustrated. They are opening up the reservation list again, with only 500 of the 20,000 LEAFs delivered to their owners so far. That’s another 19,500 owners that paid $99 still waiting arrival of their electric car.
The part of the press release that’s frustrating is here:
“More markets will follow, with market availability in the southeastern United States (Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Maryland, South Carolina, and Virginia) this fall, and nationwide ordering in 2012.”
No detailed mention of when those of us remaining 19,500 will see our LEAF. I was hoping that an August or September delivery date would happen, but given today’s news, it sounds like I will be waiting even longer to go electric.
I’m holding out hope that delivery will happen this year, but at this point, I guess we’ll have to wait and see. Stay tuned.
🙁 Like they say patients is a virtue. Guess it’s true, but damn it I never really did like that quote! Who said it any way?
Yes, and I should be patient, but the idea that it keeps getting put off makes me less patient. Plus, I do have a working car now.
Ouch, distinct lack of Utah in that press release. Can imagine why you’re frustrated mate.
Yeah, if I lived in Phoenix, I could have either taken delivery or getting pretty close to it.
They’re making a killing just on the reserved list!
Yeah, doing the quick math, that’s almost $2 mil. A nice chunk of change.
That sucks! Hopefully you find something soon.
Me too. If I lived in Portland, I could be close to getting one.
Maybe if you changed your address to Austin you’d get it faster. Just sayin’…
And yet another city I could be living in that has the LEAF. Dammit!
I think you should demand a gold-leafed LEAF. They clearly will have the time to prep it for you. 😉
Gold-leafed LEAF… that’s not a bad idea. Ok, Nissan.. get crack’n
That must be frustrating!
It is, since my current 2001 Sentra is having some issues. Hoping it will hang on that much longer.
I can’t believe it’s been a year! I hope it happens soon. I am anxious to hear what you think of it 🙂
Yeah, a year goes by quick. Just from my two test drives I’ve had with it, I am excited to get one, but long term is where I really want to see how it fits into my life.
Wow, I’d be a little upset too. It seems to me like they should have delivered on the first set of reservations before accepting another round. I hope you get your soon!
Exactly. That’s what I was thinking when i read the official press release.
