Random Leakage #1
|
Welcome to a new post category. Random Leakage.
Every so often, there’s a lot of stuff that doesn’t always fit into a Scooter Sunday post that I just want to talk about. Random subjects that I don’t want to do a separate post on, but better fitted into a single post. And as the name implies, the post itself will be random… no set day of the week… whenever I feel like posting one.
Banal Leakage errata
I’ve added a few changes out here that I hope will improve the usability of the site.
- Mobile – This site is mobile-enabled. And it’s been available since day one. I just haven’t blogged about it yet. Most browsers on phones should work. I’ve tested it on a few phones. Access via the iPhone shows the actual mobile site, not the full site. I am working to see if I can make changes so Mobile Safari on the iPhone and iPod touch will show the full site. If you have web access (and unlimited at that), give it a try and let me know if you liked it or not.
- Comment features – I’ve added a couple of plugins for comments. The first is a comment preview, so now you have a chance to preview what you wrote before you post it. And a comment subscribe button. I have it off by default, so you have to remember to check it before clicking post if you want email notification of additional comments being left on a post.
- Logos, graphics, icons – I am in the process of working on some icons and graphics for the site, like the main logo, Scooter Sunday, Random Leakage and other stuff. It’s a work in progress and may not show up until sometime later in the summer, but I want to try and fix this place up a bit, giving it a few frills.
I’ve also learned that WordPress really likes Safari instead of Firefox. Not sure why that is, but all of the admin functions work a lot better in Safari. No complaints here.
Not everything can be an improvement. Those of you using Internet Explorer 6 to access this blog have most likely noticed that it’s a bit broken. The whole right side of the blog gets pushed down to the end. I am trying to locate what part of the code is causing this, but it’s a work-in-progress. So it may be some time before I get it fixed. If you have access to Firefox or Safari on the Windows side of things, use them to access this blog for now. Or if you can, do the upgrade to Internet Explorer 7, which does work well.
I Love You This Much
Back a few weeks ago, Kevin from kapgar gave several of us bloggers an award. It’s not an Emmy, Oscar or Webby, but it’s cool that someone shared the blog love. Thanks, Kevin. And I guess you are supposed to share the love with other bloggers, but all of the ones I know already have this award. I’ll just wait for a Webby and thank everyone in my acceptance speech.
Marvel Superhero
So Winter had this over on her latest blog post and I thought I would try it out.
Find out Which Marvel Superhero Are You at LiquidGeneration.com!
Iceman? I was hoping for someone more bad ass, but that’s the breaks, kid.
I will be back with another post later this week before heading out to Tahoe.
I’m sure I commented yesterday but it’s not showing so I’ll say it again – I am so jealous about your trip to Lake Tahoe – it looks wonderful!
Have an amazing time and many many congratulations :o)
I use Firefox and your blog looks good to me! And preview my comments? Nah. They’re off the cuff to begin with – why make them pretty?! ha.
penelope – Didn’t see your comment. I even checked the spam bucket. Thanks for the congrats. It should be fun.
nilsa – Yeah, Firefox 2.0 is pretty good, but there are some WordPress admin issues here and there. Wondering if the new Firefox 3.0 will resolve them. Will have to try it when it’s released today.
I thought the preview comments option is one of those safe options for some.
I read your blog often on my blackberry, and it’s always looked decent. Some of the blogs out there, tho – they might render ok, but leaving a comment is very difficult. Some of them give me errors when leaving a comment, which is annoying to say the least.
Looks good in FF2 on my work winders laptop. Will try in in FF3 on my Linux machine when I get home.
People still use Internet Explorer? Why people? Why? Firefox for teh win.
I use Safari for Windows exclusively for my blogging needs. It does work better with WordPress. Firefox has this nasty habit of taking away the extra space between my periods and the next sentence and that bugs the ever loving shit out of me!
How funny…if I had a penis, I’d be Iron Fist.
I use Sea Monkey mostly. I tell people to use Firefox and then I use Mozilla’s other browser almost exclusively. LOL I do have Safari, Firefox, and IE7 but Sea Monkey is my browse of choice. Your site looks perfect in it! BTW, I think Iceman is an awesome thing to be!
I will tell you, as a comic geek, that Iceman is considered one of the most powerful heroes in the Marvel Universe because of the nature of his power.
whall – I’ve not viewed my blog from a BB, so that’s good to know. Both of my Treo’s (a Palm and a Windows Mobile), the site looks pretty good.
kevin – YEah, the site itself looks good in FF2 (I’m on a Mac), but as Hilly mentioned in her comment, editing and admin stuff seem to have issues.
hilly – Yeah! a Safari for Windows user. The latest version does work pretty well for a lot of things. I use it on my work Windows computer for some of the work stuff I do.
LOL @ your Iron First penis reference.
winter – To be honest, i’ve not heard of Sea Monkey. I’ve tried Opera and it’s got some minor issues.
avitable -Really? That’s cool. Reading more about him, I see he made his first appearance the year I was born (1963). And his character was also in the first and third X-Men movies. Now I am be proud to be Iceman.
I need to try WP so I can play with all these add-ons. Not sure just what they are, but everyone keeps raving.
You’re welcome, BTW!
kapgar – WordPress is not all that bad. It seems there’s an add on for everything. And people like Karl and Hilly have had recent experiences doing the upgrade.
Sea Monkey is Mozilla’s full featured browser with a built in composer. It used to be called Phoenix in the earliest incarnations.
winter – Checking that out, it looks like a cool app. An all-in-one with an IRC chat client. That’s pretty cool. And there’s a Mac version, too. Thanks for the recommend.
I loves me my Sea Monkey. It’s a VERY stable browser platform. Not as hip with the plug ins as Firefox, but I’m not a plug in dependent girl anyway. Glad you like it!
I had issues with the Visual Editor in WordPress in FF2 but then fixed them… somehow… not sure what happened but then it was happiness all the way. Then, with the FF3 upgrade (which otherwise I love) teh ol’ WordPress issues returned. So, bouncing back to Safari to write my posts and Firefox for everything else!
One thing I noticed is that the “Leave a Reply” stuff has no borders, and is set up backwards (instead of the standard label first, entry area second). So, if it is not filled in already, it is a matter of poking around until you find a place you can type.
winter – The FF plugins are nice, except each time you upgrade, it’s a crap shoot if they are going to work or not. Sea Monkey not having plugins avoids all of that.
bec – Your experience is the same as mine, where I use Safari for the admin stuff (writing posts, etc) and FF for everything else. WordPress sure is a fickle beast, when it comes to browser compatibility.
dmarks – I’ve noticed that as well with the comment Leave a Reply box. I will have to look at the code to see if there is a way to increase the border size on it, making it stand out more.
