What DID Happen In Vegas (and Park City, Too) 10

The view from our room at the Stratosphere

Those of you that read my last post, you know I went to Vegas for a few days. Here’s what I did:

  • Gambled in Mesquite, both penny slots and roulette (lost $5)
  • Slept (barely) in a bad bed at the Virgin River Hotel and Casino
  • Drove from Mequite to Vegas – in heavy rain
  • Went to the new Hard Rock Cafe on the strip (right next to the World of Coca-Cola)
  • strip view coca cola

  • Watched our waiter at the Hard Rock Cafe juggle a chair
  • hrc waiter chair

  • Watched several bands play, one of which was The Lazy Stars
  • – photo set of the bands at the show on Flickr

  • Went to the top of the Stratosphere

  • … and went up even higher and outside with my brother-in-law
  • doug marty stratosphere

  • DID NOT ride any of the rides – especially Insanity
  • Filmed video of others riding Insanity
  • Drank a gin and tonic
  • empty drink

  • Went to the Wynn Hotel and Casino and gambled for over 5 hours on the same $20
  • Drank at least 13 gin and tonics while gambling at the Wynn Hotel and Casino
  • Finally ate at Stripburger (not a burger joint with strippers), but still happily buzzed
  • happy marty

  • Drove back home to Utah
  • Park City

Not even being home an hour, a friend of mine had tickets to go see Joan Jett at Harry O’s in Park City. For those that do not know it, this time each year, Park City is host to thousands of people for the Sundance Film Festival. It gets very crowded in the ice and snow.

After a drive up Parley’s canyon that was slick and snowy, we made it safety to the venue and enjoyed a great show. This was not my first time seeing Joan Jett live [saw her back in 2006 on the Van’s Warped Tour], but this performance was much more intimate.

Joan Jett was there to promote “The Runaways”, a coming-of-age film starring Dakota Fanning and Kristen Stewart. During the middle of the show, they came out on stage for applause.

Once the show got over, we got back in the car and headed back down the same snowy and slick Parley’s to go home.

And that was my weekend. How was yours?

My weekend was not NEAR as awesome as yours!!! Looks great!
And I swear i saw this post way earlier today, and tried to get here but something wouldn’t let me.
That, or I have ESP. Or something.

sybil law – You are correct. There was a blank post earlier (from last night) that got posted too soon. I deleted it and reposed the correct post (this one). Of course, I’m not going to deny you having ESP.

When I used to work in Vegas (traveled there every week for 4 months!), the Hard Rock casino and hotel were off the strip. It was where all the too-cool-for-school people went (personally, I liked it because it was smaller than the on-strip casinos!). Is this Hard Rock Cafe in addition to the hotel or did the hotel move to the strip?

Looks like you had a great time – just the way a vacation should be!

lisa – Oh, laundry is piled up now that I had all the fun I had this weekend.

kapgar – Even alcohol can’t cure my fear of heights.

nilsa – The old Hard Rock Cafe and Hotel is still behind the strip. This is an additional location, with a live stage area (not as big as The Joint, though)

Looks like you had a great time! Much more exciting than my weekend, which consisted of Wii Fit, running, and sleep, mostly. Not that that is a bad thing…. 🙂

A little bit tamer than The Hangover (which we finally saw).

That ride DOES look insane! Why didn’t you go on it?

What a fun vacay. I am not sure if I would like Vegas on my own, but I bet I would have a great time with you!

ren – Well, your last trip to Vegas was fun. I read about it. 🙂

kilax – Yes, much tamer. And if you knew my fear of heights, it would explain why I didn’t ride that ride (or any ride up there). And thank you for that compliment. I’ve done Vegas for many years and know how to have fun there.
