See A Little Light

On November 21, 2011, at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, some of today’s most influential artists gathered to celebrate the music of Bob Mould. Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters), Britt Daniel (Spoon), Ryan Adams, No Age, Craig Finn and Tad Kubler (The Hold Steady), Margaret Cho with Grant Lee Phillips, and Jessica Dobson (The Shins, Deep Sea Diver) all performed songs from Bob’s historic catalog. Until now, only the 2,265 concert attendees have seen these amazing performances. Fortunately, the entire evening was captured in stunning audio and high-quality video quality by filmmaker Justin Mitchell. [lifted most of that from the Kickstarter page]

When I first heard about that show, it was barely two weeks before it happened. And I was sure that even getting to Los Angeles on that short notice was difficult enough, let alone to score tickets to the event itself.

So when I saw this Kickstarter project, I was very elated. As most of you that read my music posts know, I’m a big Bob Mould fan. So being able to see this event will be great, even if it will be from the comfort of my home.

Kickstart It

You can be part of this Kickstarter project for as little as $1 (a digital hug from Bob), but in order to get the full event, you need to give at least $10, which gets you the digital download of the “See A Little Light” event. There are several packages available, with the $20 option giving you both the digital download and a physical DVD [with free shipping to US residents] going all the way up to $1,500 for the digital download, the DVD and a signed Stratocaster guitar [similar to the model Bob uses].

While I’m a solid lock on the $20 digital/DVD package, I am actually leaning towards the $100 package, which also includes a t-shirt and the reissues of the Sugar albums. For those with some freedom and a bit more cash, the $250 package includes the digital/DVD and two tickets to a future (non-festival) concert and a meet and greet pass.

Just 33 days left to sign up. They are already more than 1/3 the way funded (the goal is $95,000). If Amanda Palmer can soar past $1 million for her album, then Bob should be able to easily get to $100k.
