Mountain Dew in a bottle, made with real sugar
I’m not much a soda drinker these days, but as with other sodas with real sugar, I can’t resist trying one – even if it’s Mountain Dew. And this enticed me enough to buy it at the store when I found it on the soda shelf.

When I grew up in the late 60’s and early 70’s, soda was made with real sugar. When they started replacing sugar with High Fructose Corn Syrup, that’s when soda started to lose it’s appeal for me. I still drank a lot of Dr Pepper and Coke, but I always wished for the real sugar to replace the HFCS. So I find these days that it’s a new trend to add real sugar to these selected soda brands. Pepsi has embraced it more than Coke and other brands.

The Mountain Dew in bottles is a nice addition to the soda market. While I was never a huge fan of the Dew, I didn’t mind drinking it every so often. And this real sugar blend was pretty good. I think I can taste the difference, which HFCS as a sweetener, is much more harsh on the taste buds than real sugar is.
I’m hoping Coke will jump into this trend at some point, instead of relying on Mexican Coke to be a popular import.
