My First Caturday Post

Forrest loves the TV

I can’t believe I have never done an official Caturday blog post. I know I have shared photos of the cats here before. Let’s start with Forrest.

Forrest

Forrest came into my life back in early 2018 when my now ex-wife and I lived in Taylorsville, UT. She was a feral that used to come to the back door of the house and look.in. We always tried to get her to come in, but when we opened the door, she would run. Thus her name Forrest “Run Forrest Run”. She would eventually venture into the house, but run back out as soon as we tried to close the door. Then finally at the beginning of January 2019, she came in and has been domesticated since.

When I separated from my now ex-wife in June 2023, Forrest came with me on what I call this life rebuild at age 60. This cat is my world and while she can be annoying at times – what cat isn’t – she snuggles me at night and sits with me on the couch when I am watching TV. She turned 7 October 30, which is the best estimation of when she was born based on when she started coming around and to the vet when she got fixed in the summer of 2018. She was pregnant when we took her to the vet so she had 3 kittens, two of which died after birth. We never got to know the surviving kitten as there was a foster home where she spent the weeks recovering before getting fixed and being returned to us.

Tabby

tabby

Tabby came into my life on May 4, 2014 when she was adopted from PetSmart here in Salt Lake City, UT. She was so skinny and smelly, but she was so sweet when I reached into the kennel to per her and she kissed my nose. It was love at first kiss. And over the years, Tabby continued to be a sweet cat and very affectionate. As for Tabby’s age, we feel she was 2 years old when adopted. We assigned a birthday of August 9th, which means she will be turning 14 this year.

Before Tabby, we had a cat named Rocko that lived to be 20.5 years old and died in March 2014. We had another cat at the time – Diega – and we felt she needed another cat. Diega died in May 2020 so it was just Tabby and Forrest until June 2023 when Tabby stayed with my now ex-wife. I get to see Tabby at least once a month as my ex are I are civil and we watch each others cats when we are out of town.

I expect both cats to live long lives like the other cats that were in my life. I certainly hope so because losing a loved pet is hard and I’ve gone through it at least 6 times in the last 23+ years
