Literally Challenged 9

Last week, I mentioned that I had accepted Nilsa’s reading challenge for reading. I have picked a book, or rather two books.

Artie Lange
I think he looks a lot better since he’s gone on a diet and off the smack

As I’ve posted before, I’m a big Howard Stern fan and have been for about 15 years. For over 7 years now, Artie Lange has been a cast member of the Howard Stern show, in the chair previously filled by Jackie Martling. The stories he tells on the radio are funny and his book is a compilation of the same and other stories. Plus, I like these kinds of books that tell a good story about someone’s life.

Artie Lange’s “Too Fat To Fish” is the book that I am going to read in 30 days [or less].

A Second Book

Bookseller of Kabul
I’ve read some good books that were recommended by friends

As a bonus, once I’ve finsihed reading Artie’s book, I have taken a suggestion from commenter breakaway9 [known in real life as Kris] and will read “The Bookseller of Kabul” by Asne Seierstad. It sounds like a very good story about a woman who mingled in with the women of Afghanistan, telling how life really is in the Middle East.

In 30 Days

At the end of the first 30 days, I will write up a book report on “Too Fat To Fish” and give my readers a run down of how it was and if it’s worth passing on the suggestion to someone else. Stay tuned.

I started listening to Howard Stern when I moved to the US back in 1997 and was a fan until he went to Satellite Radio. I’m far too much of a cheapskate to subscribe to that so haven’t heard him in years. Do you still listen? Still entertaining?

kevin – I do still listen. Howard is on 4 days a week on Sirius (not including the 10 weeks a year they take off and run reruns). The show is hit and miss, mostly hit. It’s uncensored and they get pretty funny, even if some of it is crossing the line at times. Howard is still a great interviewer (he’s had a lot of celebs on recently) and he knows how to ask pointed yet intriguing questions. I miss some of the bits when Stuttering John was on the show and Billy West did a lot of funny gags that I miss as well. But I find the show funny most days and it and the commercial free radio stations, comedy channels and NFL coverage make it worth the $230 a year I spend for two radios.

whall – Yes, reading is fun.

sybil law – With Howard, you either love him or hate him. The Kabul book should be an interesting read.

Ooo, these both sound really good. I would like to hear more about what the stories are like in the first one. I bet I will like it if you do, since we seem to have a somewhat similar sense of humor.

The bookseller of Kabul looks really interesting. I loved The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns … and it sounds like a real-life version of the streets from the fictitious books I love!
