OMD! Live!
Last night, I attended the OMD show at The Depot in Salt Lake City with Dave 2 of Blogography fame. He has already posted his review of the show here. Dave has been here several times before, including for the last tour stop for Depeche Mode here in Utah.
Third Time
This was my third time seeing the band, with my first being in 1985 along side Thompson Twins. Second was a few years later. Both times were epic and the third time did not fail to be just as epic.
Amazed at the endurance and energy that Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphreys had during the almost 2 hour show. Many classic songs were played like the closer “Electricity” and other big hits like “If You Leave” and “(Forever) Live & Die)”. Loved hearing “Secret” again, which was amazing live. They released a new album this week called “English Electric” with several songs from that new release being played, “Metroland” and “Night Cafe” being my favorites so far.
Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphreys
The crowd was very vocal and active. Dave and I were off to the left side of the stage, where we found both seats and a regular drink waitress. The sound for the The Depot was great as usual. I was blown away at how great OMD sounded after being a good 25+ years since the last time I saw them live. For a band that started in the late 70’s, they are just as brilliant and strong as ever. Andy’s voice still hits those highs. Paul’s keyboard talents hit all of the right notes.
Packed
lively crowd
For a show that wasn’t sold out, they could have fooled me. This venue was packed with fans of OMD. Trying to get past the crowds just to head to the restroom was pretty crazy.

Happy concert goers
I don’t personally know that many OMD fans here local in Salt Lake, so it was nice that Dave, who is a bigger fan than I am [he’s seen them many times more over the years], was willing to travel down to Utah to attend the show with me. Thanks, Dave.
May there be a Thompson Twins reunion in our future.
