Yep, two years ago today, I started this blog. My first post wasn’t very exciting or entertaining, but hey, I had to start somewhere.

Since that first day of April two years ago, I’ve blogged about all sorts of topics, made many videos of both snow and scooter rides, showed you what kind of food I eat, spoke my mind on political subjects and many other details of my life.

While I’ve made promises in the past to post more often here, I am doing my best to change that. I’ve had my own distractions that have wedged their way into my time, which bothers me more on a personal level than it may my readers. Just know that I have daily thoughts about this place and eventually, that will translate into more posts and [hopefully] more often.

And speaking of readers, thank you to those of you that have stuck around. Karl was my first [and only commenter on the first post, and Dave2 was not too far behind on my second post.

So as I start my third year of blogging here at Banal Leakage, I hope to keep my readers just as entertained as they have been these past twenty-four months.

Hiya. Karl here. Marty has once again decided to leave the keys to his blog in the hands of relative strangers while he goes off on a little vacay. This time he’s not getting married because, well, he’s already married. He’s off in Hawaii, Twittering away in the sand and surf.

I’ve never been to Hawaii because I refuse to acknowledge its statehood until I can drive there. But I understand it’s very nice. Here are some things Marty can do while he’s there.

Run in slow motion along the beach, carrying a red Baywatch life buoy. Rescue several swimmers, whether they need it or not. Be careful not to put them down until you reach the parking lot. They’ll thank you.

Roast pigs with apples in their mouths. Pigs love that.

Get on a dining table and sing the entire Don Ho repertoire. Be sure to acquire a bubble machine for the encore.

Reenact the Brady Bunch Hawaii episodes. Try not to freak out with a tarantula on your chest.

Look for Higgins from Magnum, P.I. Don’t come home until you find him.

Get leid.

Find the four-toed statue from “Lost.” Put a giant toe ring on it.

Have a scavenger hunt and look for consonants. They’re a rare find in Hawaii.

Bungee jump into a volcano.

Collect several hundred beer bottles. Put messages in each one, cork them, and set them into the water to see where the bottles go. Wait for a response.

That ought to keep Marty busy.

No Snowy Sunday for Two Weeks

Well, at least not from me. I leave on Friday for Hawaii. But I’m not leaving you post-less while I’m gone. I have lined up some great guest bloggers who will be providing you with some <del datetime="2009-03-02T02:54:19+00:00">good, clean, wholesome entertainment</del> sinfully and carnally-pleasing blog posts. Here’s the line up:

March 8th – Karl from Secondhand Tryptophan

March 9th [week of] – Catherine from Seventh Notebook

March 15th – Hilly from Snackie’s World

Plus, while I’m in Hawaii, I plan on doing a couple of short posts with some photos and a quick blurb telling you all what a great time I’m having. Yes, I’m nice like that.

See you later on this week.

And we are back. Although it’s not technically sunday, this edition of Scooter Sunday is getting posted on Monday this week. It’s been very busy here at Banal Leakage, with a wedding, travel hell and a whole slew of other life-filling adventures. So let’s get this started.

Thanks to Karl

Much thanks to Karl from Secondhand Tryptophan for guest posting while I was off getting married. His stories always entertain me and I only wish more people would have stopped by to read his work. That’s ok. Go visit him at his blog to catch up on the latest blogger event, BrittCon.

Yard Sale

It is guaranteed that at least once a year, we have a yard sale at our house. In years past, it’s been all of our older stuff. But this year, my step-daughter Earth had a bunch of items she needed to get rid of. Most items were sold and some items went to the local thrift shop, but the one item we were betting on selling right away didn’t sell. Even at $10, no one wanted it. Not sure why.

“I may be older, but I can store a nice TV and stereo system.”

Yard sales are slow at times…. very slow. There are lull times waiting for people to stop by. We can just sit there and let the heat get the best of us. But instead, we chose to drink. And everyone loves mojitos.

I made at least 12 of these on Saturday

Scooter to the Store

Of course, there was a scooter ride this weekend. Since mojitos were requested, I had to run to get the various limes and club soda needed. No use taking the car when the seat in my scooter can hold a few items. And since the weather is now in the 90’s most of the time, it a nice ride.

WALL-E

I have been waiting for this movie to come out for well over a year now. First off, it’s a Pixar (which is now wholly-owned by Disney, which makes it a Disney movie) and with the exception of Cars, I’ve seen and loved them all.

WALL-E tells a very vivid story: in the year 2815, a single robot is left to clean up, (stationed in what are the remains of New York City) after humans can no longer inhabit the planet. In the process of his daily duties, he develops a personality.

The major plot of the movie [which I will not reveal here] flows well and the story stays on track, making it easy for most 16 and older to follow the movie from start to finish. Younger kids will like WALL-E and his interaction with other robots, especially one named EVE. There’s a love story here and it’s a pretty simple one. The various messages of the movie are pretty obvious and those that understand the effects of the environment on our planet will get this movie. Those that don’t, will still enjoy the animation and how all of the characters interact together.

There are all sorts of fun tidbits thrown in, including something instantly recognizable to Mac users. I really liked this film and will see it in the theater at least a couple more times before waiting for it’s release later this year on Blu-Ray.

Post Wedding Wrap-Up

The final two days of our wedding weekend were pretty calm. Several of us went to the beach at the lake on Sunday June 22nd and caught some rays and played in the water.

“Hey grandpa, how do I flush this?

Then it was back to Reno on Monday to catch a plane back home. This time, we were at least an hour early. Our flight was uneventful going home until we landed back in Utah and went to the baggage claim area. Seems someone else has a similarly-colored blue suitcase and mistakenly took mine.

We filed a baggage claim and within 24 hours, I had my bag, intact with all of my belongings [kudos to Delta's response time and baggage reclaim desk]

Back To Normalcy

Now that the fun and major events are over for a while, it’s time to meld back into daily life. Next week, Scooter Sunday is back in it’s regularly scheduled blog post slot. Stay tuned.

Warm Weather

Warm weather is finally here. This last week, I rode my scooter to work four out of the five days. And I will get four out of the five days this week, too. The weather is finally scooter ready.

Hanging Out

What better way to show your dad you love him then to hang out with him for the day. Now, I’m not some old fuddy-duddy that can’t listen to anything stronger than Lawrence Welk and complain about everything every five minutes [unless it's the weather]. I’m pretty hip, with it and fun to spend some time with, at least that’s what my daughter tells me.

“Look dad, the car drives itself”

But the real reason she wanted to spend time today is because I promised her a driving lesson. She reminded me it’s been more than six months since the last time we had been out for a driving lesson. So we went to the local high school and I had her go over all of the previous things she learned before. She passed with flying colors and I came out of it without any extra grey hairs.

Next week: Guest Poster

“It’s good to the be the King”

So next week, I will be out of town getting married in Lake Tahoe. I have been requested by my other half to not bring my laptop. When I heard this news, I started to get withdrawals. No checking email, no reading blogs, no updating my blog… all of it off limits [well... at least with my laptop]. I do have two internet-connected cell phones at my disposal, as well as my HP Jornada 728, which is what I use to jot down ideas I get for my writing. So I won’t be completely out of the loop, but I won’t have time to do a complete Scooter Sunday post.

So I’ve asked Karl from SecondHand Tryptophan to guest post here. As a former scooter owner and a blogger that knows his wordsmith skills, I think I’ll be leaving all of you in good hands. I’ve given him free reign to talk about whatever he wants, with no restrictions on anything, including language and subject matter. Can’t wait to see what he posts (and if I will have any readers when I get back… )

“I’ll be back”

So there you have it. I will be back to posting Scooter Sunday in two weeks.
