Nirvana is back… well, sort of.

For the 12-12-12 benefit this past Wednesday, one of the worst kept musical secrets was that Paul McCartney was going to jam with the remaining members of Nirvana – Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl. And almost at the very end of the show, out came Krist and Dave with Nirvana touring guitarist Pat Smear [also current full time guitarist in the Foo Fighters] and they played an original song “Cut Me Some Slack”

In The Studio

The song will be on the forthcoming album for Dave’s movie “Sound City” which is a documentary about the legendary Los Angeles recording studio. You can pre-order the album via iTunes here, netting you the studio version of the song, which you can listen to via YouTube below.

Again on SNL

And again in the same week, we get to see the same group of musicians performing the same song.

What say you, readers? Is this one of the coolest things in music this year or just fluff? And if it’s just this one song, do you want to see them collaborate on others?
