ren - I don't remember keeping lists before, but for some reason, at the end of a year and a numerical decade, I thought it would be fun.

For the films you mentioned in your quick pick, they are really well done movies, both in character situation, story and for the Bourne series.. action packed. You are right that Goodfellas rivals The Departed without question (hard to believe that movie will be 20 years old this year).

I would be curious to hear your thoughts on the Kill Bill movies after the re-watch.

The Dark Knight bothered me on a few levels, one of which was Christian Bale's voice. It was too much. Too enunciated. I liked it, but it fell behind Iron Man.

kilax - Thanks, Kim. Good choices.

I haven't made such a list, not even for a single year. I took a look at the favorites of what I own, but it's really sorted by how often I like to rewatch a movie, which is a measure of several factors (The Six Sense, for instance, requires me to wait several years between viewings).

My quick opinion on your list is that I agree with Almost Famous and the Bourne films, but that's probably it. The Departed, as with all other gangster movies, pales in comparison to Goodfellas. Perhaps unfair, but I can't help it. I should probably rewatch the Kill Bill movies as they just annoyed me when I saw them at the theater. At this point, I've forgotten what bothered me, so perhaps I would appreciate them more on a second viewing.

As for Iron Man, I'm so enamored of (the second half of) Spider-Man 2, that I'm probably jaded. I was singularly unimpressed by both Iron Man and The Dark Knight. (Can I be singularly unimpressed by two things? What does that even mean?)

Ratatouille was pretty good, but the pinnacle of Pixar is The Incredibles.

b.e. Earl - Love the play on words with your praise of Almost Famous.

kilax - What were the 3 you agreed on? Was The Departed one of the 3?

tori - another Ratatouille fan. Yay! And you should really check out some of the other films.

delmer - Yep, you are thinking of the right movie. Mark Wahlberg is the guy.

kevin - I regularly watch the Bourne movies, too. For me, it's how well they are put together and how well the cast works together.

I've only seen four of your top nine. So it appears I have some movies to add to our Netlix queue ;-) Oh, and I own your tenth (Bourne's 1-3) and they never ever get old. Don't know what it is about them but I watch them every couple of months.

I've never seen (or heard of) "Adaption" but it sounds interesting.

I was trying to recall the name of "The Departed" this past weekend. I saw a box of blue rubber gloves at work and was reminded of Marky Mark at the end (if I'm thinking of the right movie).

I have only seen one of the movies (Ratatouille). When I read Kapgars list, I had only seen one of his also. I think I need to start seeing grown up movies instead of only kids. Maybe that should be one of my resolutions this year.

I've seen 6 of those. 3 I agree on... the other 3, meh, but that is what's fun about movie preferences!

Ha. We love The Departed. We laugh so much at Mark Wahlberg and Alec Baldwin's characters. What a fun movie. We must like gangster movies. We watched The Godfather (I and II) this week. I had never seen them!

kapgar - Kill Bill Vol 2 wasn't as action packed as the first, but it ties the story up nicely.

sybil law - Thank you. Another fan of Ratatouille... Yay!

dave2 - Thanks for the correction on Infernal Affairs (which I've corrected in the post). Differences do keep life more interesting. Let's see how much in common my best of decade in albums we'll have. Transformers 2 didn't make my 2009 best of list, either. :-)

Wow. I didn't think it was possible for us to be more different in our choices. I'd definitely include the Tarantino films... possible Iron Man... but that's about it. Loved Almost Famous and The Bourne Films, and enjoyed Mulholland Drive, but don't consider them contenders for my Top Ten. Was completely indifferent to Adaptation. Hated Sideways with a passion despite having Sandra Oh in it. Loathed the watered-down remake of the Infernal Affairs films (which aren't Japanese, they're Hong Kong cinema at its finest). And thought Ratatouille was by far the weakest of the recent Pixar offerings. Oh well... our differences just keep life more interesting!

But really... no Transformers 2 on the list? :-D
