Time For Change

Notice something different here?

I’ve updated my theme. The one I had before was pretty good and it was clean and had a nice look to it, but it was trouble whenever I changed some things around. I had to resolve that, especially if I wanted to move to WordPress 2.7.1 anytime soon. [I'm still at 2.6.5 for a couple more weeks]

Gone is the ad in the upper right part of the header. Also gone are the colors. Gray and black may seem bland, but I decided that the cleaner, sleeker look would be much easier on the eyes. And my eyes are not getting any better these days.

Also, the Blogroll is now on it’s own page. Something about better page results for SEO.

In time, I’m also going to go back to my older posts and take some of the extra formatting that the previous theme needed to display properly. Things like extra line breaks and odd paragraph formatting will be a lot smoother.

I’m also still working on some graphics and other enhancements to this site, which this new theme should be easier to configure for the future.

So hit me up in the comments with any feedback, problems, issues or praise.

    gray is a good color

Do you have a screenshot of the “old” template? I read through a reader most of the time and I don’t remember what you had before. ;-)

I like the monochrome palette. w00t!

    Looks nice and clean

Great Blogroll too. Can’t put my finger on it but it seems to be lacking something je ne sais quoi… *cough*

  4. kapgar says:

As you know, I have no problem with gray. Nice choice.

  5. Sybil Law says:

I like it. Simple. (Also, what LeSombre said!)

  6. NYCWD says:

Minimalist is the new black it seems in blog templates.

    At least until next week.

I hear that next week animated GIFs are making a comeback.

rachel – Thank you. Gray goes with anything, even in the blog world.

lesombre – Here’s a screenshot of the last template – click here. It was nice, but at the same time, I wanted something cleaner and less problematic when making changes. Plus the old theme may not have moved to WP 2.7.1 all that well.

dutchbitch – *hangs head in shame* How did your blog get removed from my blogroll. I have now resolved this crisis.

    kapgar – Viva le gray.

    sybil law – Thank you.

nycwd – Yes, I’m following this week’s trend. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got to brush up on my animated GIF skills. :-)

  9. LeSombre says:

Thanks for the screen shot. How quickly we forget, huh?

And BTW, I draw a mean dancing cellphone if you want animated gifs. ;-)

  10. Penelope says:

Ummm hello? Where is the fridge, the wine and the Bombay??? Yeah I’ll say there is something missing allright!
Okay, actually it’s all fine and nothing seems to be broken ;)

  11. SoMi's Nilsa says:

Looks great to me. The upside of many shades of gray? No one turns their head at work if I happen to reading your blog. Even if it’s lunch. Umm, hello, it’s noon here in my parts! =)

  12. martymankins says:

lesombre – Dancing cell phones… Sounds entertaining.

penelope – No fridge, no limes, no Bombay? something is missing. Good to know everything else is verified ok. ;-)

nilsa – Wow. I can now say my blog is SFW (which compared to Avitable’s blog, which is NSFW). Enjoy reading my blog while eating your lunch. :-)

  13. I like it. I’ve always been a bit partial to gray so I don’t think it’s bland at all. Quite the opposite actually.

  14. kilax says:

You know I love me some gray ;)

  15. Winter says:

Gray is one of my favorite colors. Most of our cats are gray.

  16. martymankins says:

    kevin – Thank you, sir.

kilax – Yes, that’s true. You have a gray color theme going on over at your blog, too.

winter – Our cat is gray, too. Just a lot darker than this blog. :-)

I like it, sleek and easy on the eyes. I like gray too, and after reading all these comments, I now have “Touch of Gray” (or is it Grey?) by The Grateful Dead in my head. I was never a big Dead fan, but I happen to really like that song.

  18. martymankins says:

catherine – Glad you like it. It is easy on the eyes. And it’s “Touch of Grey” which is one of the few Dead songs I like (“Casey Jones” is the other one)

  19. Xisor says:

Hmmm, Gray has always done me well… ;) Although, kinda sad, ~~~sniff~sniff~~~ was hoping for a new Scooter Sunday ~~~sniff~sniff~~~

  20. martymankins says:

xisor – I’m glad you like it. Gray is not only neutral, but easy on the eyes and very uniform. The clean look is in.

(new Scooter Sunday post just posted)
