Snowy Sunday #11
No snow or the promise of snow… the show must go on. All new this week.
Snowy Sunday Ep. 011 from Marty Mankins on Vimeo.
ATTENTION YouTube Users
This week’s video is not available thanks to WMG (Warner Music Group) removing the audio from it [Read the details here in this CNET article]. This tends to happen with some record companies, as there have been a couple of videos I’ve done that have had copyright warnings. Oddly enough, the videos I’ve previously used songs from a couple of WMG artists [Red Hot Chili Peppers, Van Halen] have so far been left untouched. Universal Music has been smart enough to leave the audio alone in my videos, adding a link in the details of the YouTube video page to purchase the song. Evidently, Warner Music Group isn’t that smart. I’m not surprised, given who runs WMG. So until Mr. Edgar Bronfman Jr. pulls his collective head from his greedy ass, I will not be uploading any YouTube videos that contain any music from Warner Music Group.
For a list of Warner Music Group artists, click on this link.
The Vimeo video above has not been affected and unless things change at Vimeo, I will continue to use that service for all of my weekly videos. If for some reason you cannot access Vimeo, let me know and I will provide another option for downloading and viewing this week’s episode of Snowy Sunday.
Thanks for your patience.

As always good video. Also, I stumbled across your “Take Back Salt Lake City” video on you tube today. Pretty awesome! I really enjoyed that video. Didn’t even know you made in until I saw Tiff.
For some reason, Vimeo videos play much better for me anyway. I’d always rather go there than YoohooTube. I wish more people would use it.
xisor – Thanks, Tim. And yes, the “Take Back Salt Lake City” video was something Tiff and I threw together for a Snow Patrol contest. I thought I had mentioned that one. Glad you liked it.
sj – I prefer Vimeo over anything else, but YouTube is more compatible on multiple devices like the iPhone and various mobile phones. I wish there were more devices Vimeo supported so I can ditch YouTube.
Your facial expression totally crack me up!
If you’re really that hard up for snow, come visit me. This is a Dwight Gooden and Darryl Strawberry wonderland.
penelope – When my wife saw that expression, she cracked up, too.
kapgar – Ha! So true. If I find myself needing more snow, I may have to make a bigger road trip to come film.
I am kind of tired of snow here. This year has been so cold and windy that we haven’t even gotten to go sledding yet. Hopefully soon.
I loved the video and am laughing right now!
And I am so, sooo excited because I think I’ll be getting some snow and even a SNOW DAY this week! About damn time!!
Excellent video, as always. I felt for Mr. Penguin! 🙂
Excellent video as always sir. You’d think the record companies would be pleased about the free promotion and not get their knickers in a twist.
tori – I know what you mean about getting tired of it. Especially if it snows a lot, then some more, then even more…. too much, too soon isn’t good. I’d prefer once or twice a week, maybe a few inches each time.
Thanks for the props on the video this week.
sybil law – Ahh.. a Mute Math fan. Seen them live once and met most of the band. I’ve been wanting to use this song for a while. Congrats on your upcoming SNOW DAY. Thanks for the props. Mr. Penguin is my snow barometer.
kevin – Thank you, sir. That CNET article I linked to talked about how Universal does the same YouTube video scanning thing, but instead of removing the songs, they have found a way to work with Google and making some decent money. One wonders if Warner Bros could if Mr. Bronfman wasn’t at the helm.
I have snow PTSD from our big December storm so watching these is a little hard. If I lived in Utah, I wouldn’t worry, but I’m in Washington, I’m done with snow.
WE WANT SNOW
WE WANT SNOW
(youtube did the same thing with one of my videos – Donald Fagen’s Tomorrow’s Girls. I had to change the music. Ugh).
brandon – If I lived in Washington, I’d want to be done with snow and get back on the scooter.
whall – I’ll see what I can send down in February, when we gets a regular batch of this stuff. YouTube’s become a bit difficult with music lately. Donald Fagan must be on a Warner label.
YIKES! That list is scary. Rob Thomas is on it and I really wanted to use one of his songs for the video for Fire Season. I don’t think I’ve had any music pulled from videos. At least, I haven’t received any notices of that. I have had the notices where they won’t post a video because of a song (by Jimmy Eat World)and where they said the song was copyrighted but I could use it anyway. My Christmas video uses Faith Hill and it was okay a week ago. Hmmm. Might have to go check all my stuff. You’re right about the fussiness of You Tube now. Luckily, I like to use more obscure artists.
winter – Scary, indeed. I knew Warner was evil and made stupid decisions, but this one just tops the cake. I wonder if Mr. Bronfman uses the internet or if he just deems it an evil monster taking his money. You may be ok with Rob Thomas, but you never know.
I am surprised about the WMG thing. Interesting.
Mr. Penguin must be so happy now! Did any snow accumulate? It hasn’t snowed here in awhile, but I’m happy – we still have a lot of it on the ground!
kilax – Yeah, some snow landed pretty good. About 3 inches worth. It’s all off the driveway and most of the lawn now, but the timing of it all was just too perfect.
Marty, love the music, must not be a WB hit. As far as the snow showing let’s pray for MORE!!!
mark n – I didn’t realize Mute Math was an artist on a WB-owned label. Praying for more snow, that’s for sure.
