Gas Mileage Update
The last three tanks I’ve used in my scooter have gone 110, 109 and 115 miles, respectfully. My tank holds 1.1 gallons of gas. Doing the math, I ended up getting almost 105mpg on my last tank.
I’ve been riding my scooter to work most days, not driving my car much. As a matter of fact, I went from August 15th to September 29th on a single tank of gas for my car. That figured out to be 28mpg in my car. Not bad and the savings on gas was nice, too. Not to mention reducing the amount of emissions I added to the air.
The weather here in Salt Lake is changing quick. This last Friday was pretty damn chilly. A high of 47. Brrrrr! I bundled up for my ride, but I can tell you that it was a bit tough. My days of daily riding are coming to an end. So sad.
R.I.P. Mother’s Cookies
Speaking of sad, One of my favorite cookies that I’ve eaten for years will soon be gone. Mother’s Cookies abruptly shut their doors after 92 years in business.
“Goodbye frosted rhinos, tigers and elephants”
I had so many memories as a kid, eating those frosted Circus Animal cookies. When I heard the news, I wiped the tears from my eyes and drove to the two local Albertson’s and bought several bags. I am now on a daily ration, which is proving to be difficult. Can’t. Resist. Cookie.
I always preferred the smaller bite-sized version of the iced oatmeal
While the Circus Animals were my all-time favorite, the iced oatmeal were a close second. So tasty and a great little snack. I know there may be another brand out there that’s similar, it just won’t be a true substitute. I will miss Mother’s brand when they are no longer found at the stores.
There is a scooter place right around the corner from us. They had all their scooters out on display yesterday. And I started strategizing ways in which we could buy one. I’m in serious crush mode with them right now.
Ha ha. I love the 360 of you sitting on the scooter! Beth is going to love the shout out!
Can you stock up on these cookies? 😛 Go to the stores, and buy all that is left, NOW!!! (that probably wouldn’t help much with your exercise plan though 😉 )
Great video! I love that song. Motley and I are shocked about Mother’s. We LOVE circus cookies! And those raisin ones with the white icing… GAH. Motley says we need a case of them and we have to eat them very sloooooooowly.
Hey that video is not from today… there is no snow…
nilsa – Oh… that would be pure heaven to see that many scooters in one place. No wonder why you have a serious crush.
kilax – That 360 was fun. Took a few takes, but I like how it came out, too. I tried to send Beth an email to let her know, but couldn’t find any contact info on her blog.
I plan to stock up… not a ton, but enough to hold me over for a while. And yes, they are not good for the exercise program, but that just means I have to work out a bit longer to enjoy the frosted goodness of a few Circus Animal cookies.
winter – Thanks, Winter. I’ve always loved that song. It reminds me of a great trip I took in 1996 when I came home to visit. That song on the radio played a lot. And now each time I hear it, it reminds me of that trip. And go stock up. I don’t think the stores are going to have them much longer and it didn’t look hopeful that someone will buy them up anytime soon.
kris – Busted!… called me out on that one. LOL Today’s snow keeps the scooter in the shed, not to mention the cold temps.
I loved the 360 degree panning around shot. Good choice of soundtrack again sir.
kevin – Getting that 360 degree panning was a bit difficult, but it worked great in the end. And thanks. Local H is one of my favorites.
lol. I was totally thinking of doing a post to Mother’s. So far I have picked up a package of oatmeal and oatmeal raisin. I probably should open them since they are so much better when they are stale — ummm I mean soft. I was also really close to grabbing a bag of the iced raisin as well as the circus animals. Everywhere I go in the Bay area, people are talking about the loss. When the factory was in Oakland, they had tours for class trips. I could never convince a teacher to take us. I can tell you that around here the shelves are emptying quickly.
dagny – I would love to see you do a post, with the story of growing up in that area. Word is spreading fast here, too. The iced raisin are good, too… although I didn’t like them until I got older. We went to another grocery store tonight and got the Halloween Circus Animal cookies. It may be the last holiday special style they do.
What? Mother’s Cookies closed? What a bummer. Damn, the store up the street is already closed or else I’d head up there and buy a few bags.
brandon – I suggest you go soon. And pick up any Halloween flavors as they may be the last, as I mentioned above to Dagny.
Shit – now I have to run out and buy some of the circus animal cookies. I loved them!
avitable – Stocking up is a good thing.
You used one of my favorite songs! I also loved that you showed you on the scooter. Very cool.
Those animal cookies are the ones my husband (and kids) likes. I prefer the ones that are more like the iced oatmeal ones…they have a pink icing and are more hard.
tori – It seems a lot of people have that song as one of their favorites. I try to add me in some of these videos.
My wife’s granddaughter was over last night and ate the rest of the first bag. I learned that 5 years old don’t know the word “ration”
How shiny is that scooter?! Do you spend most of Sunday morning polishing it (her?) before you go for a spin?
Now I think of it, does it (she?) have a name?!! The scooter needs a name!
penelope – I do try to keep it clean. Once a week, I take a buffing cloth and get the dust off. Then I do a Windex wipe everywhere. As for a name, I honestly never thought of doing that, but that’s not a bad idea. Maybe open it up to the readers for suggestions and do a giveaway/prize to the winning name. I think I may have to explore that option in the coming weeks.
Umm hello! I totally should get a prize for thinking of that idea ;o)
Oh Marty, you are a funny guy! I LOVE it – thanks for the plug….should I send a check, you know like how people have ads on their blogs and they get money for it. Marty is now the blogger pimp and should get paid!!
I wish I had a Scooter!! And, yes, will miss those cookies, too.
Marty – very cool shout out to beth. She’s very appreciative. I’m jealous – beth and I’ve been wanting a scooter for very long. One of these days we’ll bite the bullet and get one.
penelope – Well, I think that would be in order.
beth – Well, when I heard that song and was in the process of matching it up to my video, the shoutout was obvious. I don’t think I’ve been called a pimp before…. but you can send the check to…. LOL
kevin – You are most welcome. Scooters are so much fun. You would enjoy it. I will miss it here when winter approaches, but enjoying it until the streets are too slick to ride.
I see that was #005. Aren’t you a bit worried that the two leading zeros will limit you to 999 episodes? You don’t want to end up with the same problem we had with the National Debt Clock.
delmer – If I make it to that many episodes of Scooter Sunday, I will do something special for the numbering (by then, it could be a weekly TV show… who knows… ). I noticed that about the national debt clock, but it looks like they will be changing it. The current “fix” they did for the clock will not be applied to future Scooter Sunday episodes…. 😉
I’d never heard that band or song, but I like the groove.
whall – It’s a cool song and pretty catchy groove and beat.
