Scooter Sunday #6
|
I am working on a different Scooter Sunday graphic that I can use for my weekly scooter posts. Until that is done, I’m reusing a previously-taken photo of my scooter.
Ride
I actually rode today. Just to the grocery store. Was out of Red Bull to add to my vodka. The weather started out nice earlier in the day, but by the time I hopped on my scooter, it was cloudy and turned a bit cooler. Not very promising for a holiday weekend, or for a longer scooter ride.
The Cure
Ended up going to The Cure concert here in Salt Lake City on Friday night.
Each and every time I’ve seen them in concert (this was my third), they put on an incredible performance. And this show was no exception. Four encores in just over three hours. And they played pretty much everything you can think of (except for “Close To Me” and “Charlotte Sometimes”), pleasing old and new fans. And as an old fan [since 1982], it was great to have them dig deep into their back catalog (“One Hundred Years” and “At Night” never sounded better live), even though many in the crowd may not have been born before those songs were released. Regardless, a great show and one that my daughter enjoyed for her first Cure concert.
Indy IV
Nineteen years after the third installment of the Indiana Jones movie was released, we have the return of Lucas, Spielberg and Harrison Ford in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. It was one of those films that you have to see, but there were some differences since 1989’s Last Crusade brought movie goers cheering the whip-cracking explorer. I won’t reveal any spoilers here, but the ending was totally unexpected. Talk about taking a completely different turn. I guess Lucas and Co. didn’t like the previous screenwriters attempts at extending a successful trilogy into a “forth time’s a charm” series. It should make a nice chuck of change at the box office, but audiences may wonder if the wait was worth the semi-climatic ending.
And that’s all for now. Let’s see if I can finish next week’s post any sooner than the final minutes of Sunday. Hope everyone has a safe and eventful Memorial Day. Remember those who have fallen in fighting for our country.
We just got back from Indian Jones IV… and weren’t that impressed 🙁 It was still fun, but I felt like something was missing.
kilax – I see I’m not alone. As I said above, it took a turn that threw me a curve ball.
Every time I see your scooter, I want to take a ride on it!
And no, for ONCE, that’s not a euphamism 😉
hilly – I’m glad you cleared that one up. I would have taken it so much different 😉
I love that Scooter! Not that I would plant my fat ass on one. LOL And the Cure… dude, great concert to take your kid to!
I liked the movie a lot – my wife and I were both pleased that a good movie doesn’t have to follow cliches or use a ton of profanity or violence to have a good plot and be very satisfactory.
winter – I’m hoping that this shitty ass cold/rain weather will finally decide it’s closer to summer than fall so I can ride the scooter more often.
whall – In all honesty, I enjoyed the movie. And I wasn’t really expecting the same as the previous three films, just not as “out there” as what played out. And if you are looking for movies without a lot of violence and profanity, Harrison Ford has a good track record of keeping it clean.
I’m very carefully avoiding Indy spoilers because I’ll be seeing it this week. I’m going to watch it with my teenager eyes (even if they’re not nearly as good as my eyes were when I WAS a teenager) so I can enjoy it fully.
karl – I was even more careful in trying to avoid putting any spoilage into my post. Going into it with teenager eyes is a good option.
My husband took the kids to see it this weekend and they loved it. But they are kids and really had no expectations of what it would be like so to them anything was amazing. My 4 year old has been making whips and singing the theme song for days now.
tori – There were a few kids in the 8pm Sunday night showing of the movie. Except for the occasional “I’m hungry” or “I have to pee”, they seemed to enjoy the movie.
Sigh. The Cure is one of those bands I love that I have yet to see in concert. Hopefully one day…
dave2 – I thought you had seen them at least once. I know you’ve seen Depeche Mode a few times.
I agree, the ending of Indiana Jones was unexpected. Still, it was a pretty good time.
I didn’t realize the Cure were actually still performing… I’m out of touch. 😉
I haven’t seen the movie yet, and I probably won’t until it’s out on NetFlix. But now I’m really curious!
delmer – I agree, I had a lot of fun watching it. Very cool chase scenes and some funny dialog.
kyra – Yeah, i think they have been around for at least 30 years now.
And if you see if before Netflix, at least at a dollar theater to watch it on the big screen. It actually is a good time, as delmer said above.
