dagny - I've seen some pretty odd laws on the books in several states. The one you mention is pretty odd, especially for the 90's.

People didn't have to rush out to make laws after the Brown decision because those laws were already on the books. Heck. When I lived in Virginia in the 90s, there was still a law on the books making it illegal for a man and a woman who were not related to one another to be living in the same home.

brandon - You are right. Protecting sanctity of marriage is one of those drop phrases that's supposed to mean something when used in an argument, but it becomes a "pot calling kettle black" when being uttered by the detractors.

I think if Christians are really concerned about the sanctity of marriage, they really need to look inward at their own marriages and figure out why so many of them are failing. This so called sanctity of marriage crap was broken long ago if you want to take a very literal approach to the Bible.

As long as my friends are not allowed the same rights as I am to marry, the sanctity of my marriage feels broken.

I hope that California sets the trend... there is nothing wrong with gay people wanting to be married. IMO, of course.

I think an electric scooter does make more sense, in the long run. Especially if you are looking to further reduce your gas consumption. But as you said, your Jetta diesel already gets 40-50mpg, which is huge, even with diesel at $4.50 a gallon. The hill climb would also be an issue, as most electric scooters work very well on flat roads, but lack the needed power to climb a hill at a respectable pace. Reba is eventually wanting a scooter, but we are looking at all of the different models to see what would work best.

I think you are correct, scooters will become more and more of a trend as oil prices get higher and higher. Personally I think it is great, I have started seeing them all over here in the valley. While I have been considering getting one for several months now, every time I get ready ready to go down and look, I can't help but think that an electric scooter would be an even better option. I would have jumped on an electric already if it wasn't for that hill going up to 13th east on 114th or 106th for that matter. The more I look at them though and the extra payment, I can't help but wonder how much I can save over my diesel Jetta that gets 40-50 mpg already....
